About us

Like many families today we found ourselves busy doing! Working long hours locally and internationally, keeping up with the daily grind and running kids around. We had a desire to find a shack where we could relax, rejuvenate, explore and just be. A place where memories could be created for generations to come. We found it here in Bicheno.

Our surf shack needed to be close to the beach with water views, a welcoming community and a place to just slow down. Our family is happiest when we have been in the water, somehow it lifts your soul. So a surf beach where we could take out the sleds was very important. A place that we could retreat to after a surf that is warm, welcoming, cosy and a place that feels like home not a holiday house.

Our friends Kyle and Tony embraced our dream and made us feel welcome in this fabulous town. Bicheno has so many wonderful characters, all with their own unique story.

We needed our surf shack to be “Kos” (prounced coosh). Kos is Norwegian and I believe our Norwegian friend Ida explains it best:

Kos can be a lot if things in Norwegian. In its most general sense it means something that is nice, but not like in «Nice job» or «Nice car», but more like in «Having a nice time».  It is also described as a nice ambiance, the feeling you could get from having a lit fireplace or candles, by snuggling under a blanket or eating some kind of comfort food.

I would typically say: «Det var skikkelig koselig»/ «That was really cosy» to describe a great, chill place with friends or family or «Så koselig å se deg» which means ‘So nice to see you’.

We would love you to come and stay, for you to feel the spirit of our surf shack so you too can stop, be and create memories of your own.
